GAA Hurling :: Hurling is a game similar to hockey, in that it is played with a small ball and a curved wooden stick. It is Europe's oldest field game. When the Celts came to Ireland as the last ice age was receding, they brought with them a unique culture, their own language, music, script and unique pastimes. One of these pastimes was a game now called hurling. It features in Irish folklore to illustrate the deeds of heroic mystical figures and it is chronicled as a distinct Irish pastime for at least 2,000 years.

Key Battle: Joe Canning v James Maher
Question marks will be raised whether or not it will be James Maher or his replacement Jamie Nagle to start at full back. Maher had the daunting prospect of facing that well greases Tipperary full forward line and either Maher or Nagle will now have the tough task of facing Joe Canning who is back to his usual best. The Tribesmen’s star man was given a roaming roll last day out against Cork and played a lot of the game at half forward so Waterford’s back will have to keep a close eye on him.

Up Next
Most of these players are aware that it is win or bust come Sunday. Losing means that 2011 is over while a win puts the victors into the semi-final with Kilkenny.
