GAA Hurling :: Hurling is a game similar to hockey, in that it is played with a small ball and a curved wooden stick. It is Europe's oldest field game. When the Celts came to Ireland as the last ice age was receding, they brought with them a unique culture, their own language, music, script and unique pastimes. One of these pastimes was a game now called hurling. It features in Irish folklore to illustrate the deeds of heroic mystical figures and it is chronicled as a distinct Irish pastime for at least 2,000 years.

Waterford forward John Mullane:
"People are writing us off as it is," said Mullane. "I saw the bookmakers odds have us at 7-1 outsiders so that suits us down to the ground.

"If we can play the free-flowing hurling we played against Galway, we're in with a shout and we do have a chance."

"We went back to the old style Waterford way and just played off the cuff. Tactics went out the window and every fella just went out and won their own individual battle. We won in probably nearly every area of the field."

Kilkenny defender JJ Delaney:
"If you lose the semi-final you are out. I remember in 2005 sitting down and watching the final, the whole year was a waste to be honest, because you want to be there on the big day.

"That's how important the semi-final is because nobody remembers who loses a semi-final. You are just one step away from the final but if you lose it's just a complete waste of a year."
